Description

2002 YAMAHA YZ426F

Absolutely Pristine Low Hour Example

Frame Up Serviced & Race-Prepped

Full Documentation ~ Ready to Show or Race

When you fire this bike up in the alley behind the New England Motorcycle Museum, you recognize it instantly. The 2002 Yamaha YZ426F has that unmistakable bark—deep, aggressive, and powerful. This one sounds every bit as serious as the motocross weapon it is. Best of all, it’s a stock original engine and exhaust with around 5 hours total ride time. It is very clean, mint, and just the way the purists want it.

A Landmark Era in Motocross

Yamaha was leading the charge in four-stroke motocross development during this era. It all started with the revolutionary 1998 YZ400F, famously raced by Doug Henry, which changed motocross forever. The YZ426F was the evolution of that platform—more power, refined performance, and backed by Yamaha’s seemingly unlimited development resources at the time.

The result? A bike that helped cement the four-stroke revolution in motocross and remains one of the most respected machines of the early modern era.

Professionally Serviced, Tuned & Detailed by a Pro Mechanic

This particular bike comes from Andrew Baccarosa of 31 Three Cycles in Bethel, Connecticut, a professional mechanic and AMA Pro racer known for meticulous frame-off restorations of vintage motocross machines.

The bike had low time to begin with and was then taken down to the frame and completely gone through. The entire chassis was greased, torqued, and race-prepped by a professional.

Recent Service & Upgrades

Highlights of the work completed include:

  • Complete chassis teardown, grease & torque

  • Suspension rebuilt front and rear

  • RaceTech .49 fork springs

  • RaceTech 5.4 rear shock spring

  • Pivot Works shock rebuild kit

  • Carburetor fully rebuilt

  • New fuel line & rebuilt fuel petcock

  • New carb vent lines

  • Boyesen QuickShot 3 accelerator pump upgrade

  • New Twin Air filter

  • New Acerbis plastic kit

  • OEM Factory Effex graphics

  • New Bridgestone tires

    • X31 rear

    • X20 front

  • DID chain (1–2 rides)

  • ODI McGrath bend handlebars

  • Works Connection throttle tube

  • Works Connection clutch perch

  • Motion Pro front brake lever

  • New brake pads front and rear

  • Brake system flushed with Spectro brake fluid

  • Cooling system flushed with Spectro coolant

  • IMS Pro Series footpegs

  • New Tusk shift lever

  • 13 HOURS OF SHOP LABOR PLUS A FULL 6.5 HOUR ROTISSERIE DETAIL

This bike has had a full restoration & professional race prep, it is fully sorted and ready to ride.

Excellent Survivor Condition

Unlike most YZ426s that spent decades sitting in barns or garages, this example survived the test of time extremely well.

  • Frame rails are absolutely cherry

  • Straight original wheel set

  • Overall very clean and tidy machine

It also includes a skid plate protecting the frame from damage.

Rare Documentation Included

Something you almost never see on an off-road bike of this age:

  • Original Yamaha Owner’s Manual

  • Original product identification page

  • Transferable New York registration

Most motocross bikes are sold only with a bill of sale and the certificate of origin when new. To have a registration still with the bike 24 years later is extremely uncommon.

A True Collector or Rider Piece

This YZ426F checks every box:

  • Professionally prepared

  • Low time

  • Highly original engine configuration

  • Rare documentation

  • Clean survivor condition

It’s equally suitable for:

  • A serious vintage motocross collection

  • Vintage racing

  • Or simply owning one of the bikes that helped change motocross history.
