This magnificent 2000 Indian Chief is an extraordinary, investment-grade time capsule with only 86 original miles. It remains in remarkably original condition, right down to its factory Firestone tires.

Produced during Indian Motorcycle’s legendary Gilroy era, this Chief represents an important chapter in the history of America’s oldest motorcycle company. Indian was founded in 1901—two years before Harley-Davidson—and the company’s heritage is unmistakable throughout this machine.

Park it alongside a Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail and the difference is immediately apparent: the Indian is longer, larger and far more imposing. From its stretched and raked stance to its massive fuel tank, wide beach bars and deeply skirted fenders, everything about this motorcycle has a presence.

The styling pays direct tribute to the iconic 1946 Indian Chief. Look at the flowing front fender, the dramatic rear valances and the unmistakable silhouette—the torch was passed, and the flame was still burning brightly when this motorcycle was built.

AMERICAN-BUILT S&S POWER

At the heart of this Chief is an American-made 88-cubic-inch S&S V-twin backed by a five-speed transmission. With approximately 10% more displacement than the 80-cubic-inch Harley-Davidson engines commonly offered during that era, the S&S powerplant delivers excellent torque, strong acceleration and a true performance feel.

The engine is beautifully finished with blacked-out cases, chrome cylinder heads, chrome covers and a fully chromed primary system—including the inner primary. Even the coil covers are chrome plated.

The original Indian-stamped exhaust delivers a deep, authoritative rumble without being excessive. The horseshoe-shaped oil tank and original Indian-spec air cleaner, complete with its large headdress emblem, further separate this motorcycle from the ordinary.

S&S remains one of the most respected names in the American V-twin industry, providing excellent ongoing parts and service support for this powertrain.

AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF FACTORY CHROME

The front end is one of this Chief’s defining features. From the top of the handlebars to the bottom of the fork lowers, virtually every visible component is finished in chrome:

CLASSIC APPEARANCE WITH MODERN COMFORT

Although the Chief has the low, clean appearance of a vintage hardtail, it is a true soft-tail design with twin shocks concealed beneath the motorcycle and a conventional telescopic front fork.

The result is classic styling without sacrificing comfort. The large saddle is exceptionally comfortable and includes full passenger accommodations. The relaxed riding position, wide beach bars and long wheelbase give the Chief a planted, substantial feel on the road.

The metallic blue paint with contrasting white accents is absolutely beautiful. The enormous fuel tank, deeply valanced fenders, chrome-spoke wheels and laid-down license-plate arrangement create a profile that is unmistakably Indian.

ONLY 86 ORIGINAL MILES

This motorcycle has spent most of its life preserved as a display piece and modern work of art. With only 86 indicated original miles, it is the lowest-mileage Gilroy-era Indian Chief presently available.

It remains in its stock factory configuration, with the exception of a new replacement battery installed as part of its recent recommissioning.

KNOWN IMPERFECTIONS

This motorcycle is exceptionally well preserved, but it is more than two decades old and is not represented as flawless.

There is a small area of patina or discoloration on the saddle that a qualified leather specialist may be able to improve or re-dye. There is also a small bend on the front of the front fender, visible in the photographs and video. A skilled paintless-repair specialist will be able to correct it.

IMPORTANT TIRE NOTICE

The Firestone tires are the motorcycle’s original factory-installed tires and contribute significantly to its originality as a collector piece.

All motorcycles & vehicles are sold as-is where-is.

Kaplan Cycles guarantees all motorcycles are as-described. Please read the entire description and watch the entire video before bidding.

A non-refundable deposit is due immediately on purchase. PayPal or Credit Card is accepted for the deposit.

Cash (In-Person), Card (+3% fee), or Wire Transfer are our only accepted forms of final payment.

Full payment must be made within 7 days of auction close.

Your motorcycle must be picked up within 30 days of auction close. 

Exceptions are made only for international buyers OR buyers who have ALREADY made transport arrangements with a third party.

If a motorcycle is purchased and left here for longer than 30 days without written permission from Kaplan Cycles it will be resold. In the case of a re-sale, the owner will be entitled to a refund less storage fees ($25/ day beginning 30 days from auction close) ONLY if the motorcycle was paid in full on-time within the auction terms.

We always describe our motorcycles as accurately as possible.

You are purchasing a classic motorcycle. Even in cases where a bike may be in good running/ operating condition, new problems & idiosyncrasies can arise over-time from sitting or regular use.

If you have an issue with the motorcycle you’ve received, contact us within 24 hours of delivery and before leaving feedback so that we can address your concerns.

It is important you have at least a basic mechanical knowledge before purchasing and operating a classic motorcycle.

Due to our backlog, we cannot perform any additional service work or modifications on your motorcycle after the sale (ie; adding a light kit, different tires, etc.)

Out of state residents will pay sales tax with their DMV.

In our listings, title status is always listed directly below the main description.

In some cases we will sell motorcycles without title or registration. In these cases we guarantee all motorcycles sold are free and clear. We will always provide a route to obtaining title. Generally in these cases, the motorcycle will be sold at a discount to accommodate expenses involved.

Documents are mailed via USPS priority mail with a tracking number. Please allow up to 14 days after payment in full for your documents to be processed and mailed.

Keys will be shipped with the motorcycle.
