Description
2000 Honda XR100R
Pristine Frame-Up Restoration – Collector Quality
When was the last time you saw a 2000 Honda XR100R in this condition?
This legendary Honda is more than a quarter-century old, yet it looks virtually as good as the day it rolled onto the showroom floor. We recently completed a comprehensive frame-up restoration and rotisserie-level detail, beginning with an exceptionally clean, low-hour original motorcycle.
Unlike most XR100Rs—which were ridden hard, modified, neglected, or simply worn out—this bike retained an excellent original foundation. The frame was straight and clean, the engine and transmission were in excellent condition, the original fuel tank was remarkably well preserved, the forks were not damaged, and the original chrome rims were still beautiful.
We took the motorcycle completely down to the frame and carefully restored it from top to bottom. Every nut, bolt, bracket, and component was cleaned, polished, painted, serviced, restored, or replaced as needed.
Chassis and Suspension
The frame rails and swingarm were professionally refinished in the correct colors. The fork lowers were polished, while the front suspension received new fork seals, fresh fork oil, and brand-new fork gaiters.
The rear suspension linkage was completely serviced and fitted with a new linkage bearing kit. A new chain slider was also installed on the swingarm.
Wheels, Tires and Brakes
The beautiful original chrome rims were retained because they were still in exceptional condition. The front and rear wheel hubs were removed and refinished, and new rear wheel bearings were installed.
Additional work includes:
-
Brand-new front tire and inner tube
-
Brand-new rear tire and inner tube
-
New EBC brake components
-
Front and rear brakes completely inspected and serviced
-
New 52-tooth black rear sprocket
-
New 14-tooth countershaft sprocket
-
New gold 428 drive chain
The combination of the black rear sprocket and gold chain looks fantastic and gives the bike a tasteful finishing touch while maintaining its classic Honda appearance.
Bodywork and Cosmetics
The original fuel tank was in excellent condition, so it was carefully cleaned and restored rather than replaced. The inside of the tank was thoroughly cleaned, and brand-new factory-style tank graphics were installed.
The motorcycle also received:
-
Brand-new front fender
-
Brand-new front number plate
-
Brand-new side number plates
-
Brand-new rear fender
-
Brand-new seat foam
-
Brand-new seat cover
-
Brand-new handlebar grips
The original handlebars were retained because they remained in excellent condition.
Engine, Carburetor and Exhaust
The engine was removed, thoroughly cleaned, cosmetically restored, and refinished. All engine covers were repainted, and the foot pegs, brake pedal, brake arm, and kickstarter were restored and refinished.
The exhaust system was completely removed, prepared, and repainted in its original factory-style colors.
Mechanical service included:
-
Carburetor cleaned and rebuilt
-
New carburetor rebuild kit
-
New float-bowl gasket
-
New fuel petcock
-
New fuel lines
-
Fuel tank internally cleaned
-
Airbox thoroughly cleaned
-
Brand-new air filter
-
Valves inspected and adjusted
-
Engine oil changed
-
Fresh VP fuel
The engine and transmission were excellent when we began, confirming just how clean and lightly used this motorcycle was before the restoration.
$6895 Restoration Investment
Approximately 40 hours of professional shop labor went into this frame-up restoration and detail. At our standard $150-per-hour labor rate, plus approximately $895 in new parts, the documented restoration investment totals approximately $6,895—before the original purchase price of the motorcycle.
That is considerably more than most XR100Rs are worth in average condition, but this was never intended to be an average XR100R. We wanted to preserve one of Honda’s most beloved off-road motorcycles and create a collector-quality example worthy of display.
Even professional frame-off restorations on small Honda 50cc motorcycles start around $5,000. Restoring this larger XR100R is more work, and the results speak for themselves.
A True Honda Classic
The Honda XR100R has earned a legendary reputation for its durability, simplicity, ease of use, and nearly indestructible four-stroke engine. Countless riders learned to ride on an XR100, making clean original and professionally restored examples increasingly desirable.
This motorcycle is equally suited for a serious Honda collector, a motorcycle museum, a showroom display, or someone who wants one of the finest restored XR100Rs available anywhere.
We believe this is the finest 2000 Honda XR100R currently being offered for sale online. It would be extremely difficult—and considerably more expensive—to purchase another motorcycle and duplicate this restoration.
The bike will be offered at auction, allowing the market to determine its value.
