Description
1999 YAMAHA BANSHEE
COMPLETE FRAME-OFF RESTORATION WITH EXTENSIVE UPGRADES
FRESH WITH ONLY 30 MINUTES RIDE TIME ON TAR ONLY SINCE BUILD
If you've never ridden a properly built Yamaha Banshee, you're in for an experience.
There are a lot of words you could use to describe this machine — scary, gnarly, outrageous, addictive — and they would all be accurate.
The legendary Banshee twin-cylinder two-stroke engine shares its basic DNA with Yamaha's famous RZ350 powerplant, and when properly set up, these machines are absolute rocket ships.
During our test ride here at Kaplan Cycles, I didn't even get this machine out of third gear. I don't think I went much beyond three-quarter throttle, either. It simply keeps pulling and revving. This thing absolutely HAULS.
More importantly, this is not some tired, beat-up dune quad with a collection of bolt-on parts.
This is a fresh, nut-and-bolt, frame-off restoration of an excellent original 1999 Yamaha Banshee, upgraded throughout with high-quality performance and chassis components.
It has approximately 30 minutes of total riding time since completion, consisting primarily of tuning and test runs on the pavement here at Kaplan Cycles.
It has never been ridden off-road since the restoration.
COMPLETE FRAME-OFF RESTORATION
The Banshee was completely dismantled right down to the frame.
Approximately 70 hours of professional shop labor went into dismantling, refinishing, rebuilding, upgrading, reassembling, tuning, and sorting this machine.
The frame was stripped and finished in a striking bright yellow powder coat, which looks incredible against the red bodywork and gold wheels.
There is currently virtually no off-road wear on the restored chassis because the machine has only been ridden on pavement since completion.
A tremendous amount of hardware was replaced during assembly, along with bearings, suspension components, brake components, controls, drivetrain parts, and numerous cosmetic pieces.
HIGH-PERFORMANCE TWO-STROKE ENGINE
The original engine was already in excellent mechanical condition prior to the build.
Compression tested at approximately:
160 PSI
Rather than tearing apart a healthy original engine unnecessarily, the focus was placed on adding carefully selected performance upgrades and refreshing the supporting systems.
Upgrades and service include:
-
High-performance aluminum cylinder head
-
Higher-compression configuration
-
Performance combustion-chamber design
-
Brand-new Toomey Racing expansion chambers
-
Toomey aluminum silencers
-
New performance reed valves
-
Brand-new Twin Air air filter
-
Rebuilt carburetors
-
Professionally tuned carburetion
-
New water pump
-
Billet/aluminum water-pump cover
-
Refinished engine covers
-
New clutch
-
New clutch-cover gasket
-
New fuel lines
-
New carburetor drain/overflow lines

The result is an extremely crisp, responsive engine.
Starts first kick.
Revs cleanly.
Pulls extremely hard.
Tuned and ready to ride.
This is one seriously fast Banshee.
TOOMEY RACING EXHAUST
No serious Banshee build would be complete without the right exhaust system.
This machine is equipped with a brand-new set of:
TOOMEY RACING EXPANSION CHAMBERS
with matching aluminum silencers.
The pipes don't just transform the appearance of the machine — they allow that twin-cylinder Yamaha two-stroke to breathe and produce the unmistakable hard-hitting Banshee power delivery enthusiasts love.
The sound is pure two-stroke music.
COMPLETELY REBUILT REAR CHASSIS
Virtually everything at the rear of the machine has been restored, replaced, or upgraded.
Features include:
-
Brand-new +2-inch extended aluminum swingarm
-
Restored original rear shock
-
Restored original axle

-
New TM Designworks chain slider

-
New hardware throughout
The extended swingarm gives the Banshee a more aggressive stance while helping keep the front end under control when the engine comes onto the pipe.
FULLY UPGRADED FRONT END
The front chassis received an equally comprehensive rebuild.
Upgrades include:
-
Brand-new Full Flight A-arms
-
Brand-new Predator shocks
-
New ball joints
-
New suspension hardware
-
New bearings
-
New front brake components

New braided stainless-steel brake lines

The DG front bumper had literally just come out of the box Monday when the machine was completed.
The suspension, steering, and braking systems feel tight and fresh — exactly what you'd expect from a newly assembled machine.
CONTROLS & COCKPIT
The controls received extensive upgrades as well.
Features include:

Red anodized adjustable levers
-
ODI Ruffian lock-on grips

Even small details were addressed during this restoration.
BODYWORK & COSMETICS
The red and yellow color combination absolutely POPS.
Features include:
-
Excellent original-style red plastics
-
Bright yellow powder-coated frame
-
Gold wheels
-
New custom seat cover
-
New graphics
-
Excellent headlights
-
Chrome foot pegs
-
Refinished engine covers
-
Polished and billet aluminum accessories
-
New fasteners and hardware throughout
The combination of red bodywork, yellow chassis, gold wheels, polished aluminum, chrome, and billet components makes this one of those machines that demands attention from every angle.
APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES SINCE COMPLETION
This Banshee has not been taken out and beaten through the woods or dunes since restoration.
It has approximately:
30 MINUTES OF TOTAL RIDE TIME SINCE THE BUILD
That time was spent primarily riding up and down the paved road and driveway here at Kaplan Cycles while dialing in the carburetion and making sure everything operated properly.
The frame powder coating isn't chewed up.
The underside isn't hammered.
The suspension components aren't packed with dirt.
It is essentially a freshly completed build.
WHAT WOULD IT COST TO BUILD?
This is where buying a completed machine like this starts making a tremendous amount of sense.
There are approximately:
70 HOURS OF PROFESSIONAL SHOP LABOR
At $150 per hour, that's approximately:
$10,500 IN LABOR ALONE
Add approximately:
$7,000 IN PARTS, POWDER COATING & SUBCONTRACTED SERVICES
and you're at: $17,500 INVESTED IN THE RESTORATION AND UPGRADES
And that's before buying the donor Banshee.
Finding a clean, original Banshee worthy of a restoration like this isn't cheap anymore.
Start with a quality machine, then add the suspension, swingarm, exhaust, head, brakes, radiator, controls, powder coating, bearings, hardware, tires, graphics, machine work, labor, assembly, tuning, and dozens of smaller pieces — and the cost adds up very quickly.
That's why we've always said:
You're usually better off buying the right machine already finished than trying to duplicate it yourself.
LEGENDARY YAMAHA BANSHEE
There's a reason the Yamaha Banshee has developed such a cult following.
The lightweight chassis combined with Yamaha's high-revving twin-cylinder two-stroke engine created one of the most exciting ATVs ever produced.
Whether your plans involve:
-
Sand dunes
-
Open trails
-
Snow
-
Shows
-
Collecting
-
Two-stroke events
-
Or simply owning one of Yamaha's most legendary performance machines
this one is ready.
And with the right tire setup, these things are an absolute riot on hard-packed surfaces as well.

This is a spectacular example of what a properly restored and modified Banshee should be.
