1982 Maico MC250 Alpha 1
No-Expense-Spared Frame-Off Restoration
This is Finest Alpha 1 For Sale on Planet Earth
If you're looking for the ultimate 1982 Maico MC250 Alpha 1, your search is over.
Feast your eyes on this spectacular Class of 1982 Maico Alpha 1 250, featuring the legendary Alpha Control swingarm, a professionally restored Works Performance remote-reservoir shock, and a comprehensive no-expense-spared restoration that transformed an already exceptional original motorcycle into what is one of the finest Maico Alpha 1s on the planet today.
I've had multiple visitors walk into the museum and tell me this is the most beautiful Maico they've ever seen.
After riding it myself, I can tell you this machine absolutely rips. It has strong, tractable power right off idle, a massive midrange hit, and it revs to the moon. It's a holeshot monster, a wheelie machine, and everything you'd expect from one of the most iconic motocross bikes of the early 1980s.
Starting With the Right Foundation
We don't perform restorations like this on worn-out bikes.
This project began with an exceptionally clean, matching-numbers motorcycle featuring:
-
Original engine and frame
-
Original wheelset
-
Excellent frame rails
-
Beautiful original engine cases
-
Low-hour survivor foundation
The condition of the original frame rails, hubs, cases, and wheels told us everything we needed to know.
This bike had lived a remarkably easy life before restoration began.
Once we confirmed the bike was worthy of the investment, we handed it to our resident Maico specialist who is currently restoring Two Maico 490s and has become one of the most respected Maico craftsmen in our facility.
Months later, after countless hours sourcing parts, rebuilding systems, tuning, testing, and refining every detail, the result is what you see here.
Suspension by New England's Best
The suspension work was entrusted to Eric Rude From C-Cycle Suspension, whose family has spent over fifty years providing championship-level suspension service to motocross racers throughout New England and across the country.
The original Corte Cossa shock was replaced with a professionally restored Works Performance remote-reservoir shock featuring:
-
New seals
-
New oil
-
Fresh nitrogen charge
-
New bumper
-
Polished body
-
Polished reservoir
-
New rubber reservoir mounts
-
Stainless braided line
-
New Spring
This alone represents a $1,200 performance upgrade and transforms the rear suspension performance.
Frame-Off Restoration
After the motorcycle was completely dialed in mechanically, it was dismantled down to the final nut and bolt.
The frame was refinished in the correct factory Maico color and every component was either restored, rebuilt, refinished, polished, or replaced.
The attention to detail is extraordinary.
