Description
1975 CZ 175 Type 477
Concours Frame-Up Restoration by Dr. Bill Bucholz
No Expense Spared ~ Better Than Brand New
Roy Thacker Collection – 3 Miles Since Restoration
Up for auction is the crown jewel of the legendary Roy Thacker Collection—a CZ 175 Type 477 restored to a level that exceeds factory new in every way.
Roy owned over 120 museum-quality motorcycles. This was the very first bike he ever owned, and the one that sparked his lifetime passion for motocross. When it came time to restore it, Roy spared absolutely no expense and entrusted it to renowned restorer Dr. Bill Bucholz, one of the finest craftsmen in the country.
The result is a no-expense-spared, concours, frame-up restoration that stands among the finest CZ restorations on the planet.
THE RESTORATION – BETTER THAN NEW
This is not a cosmetic refresh—this is a true nut-and-bolt, frame-off, museum-grade restoration:
-
Frame completely stripped, prepped, and refinished to show quality
-
All painted surfaces finished with multiple coats of color and clear, then wet-sanded and polished
-
Every chrome component triple-plated (show-quality “best level” chrome), including hardware that wasn’t originally chromed for added brilliance
-
Wheels fully restored with re-chromed rims, new spokes, vapor-honed hubs and refinished centers
-
Suspension components disassembled, restored, and re-finished
-
Saddle professionally reupholstered to concours standard
-
All controls, levers, pegs, linkages, and hardware restored or replaced
Even small details—like the chromed magneto box, axle hardware, footpeg mounts, shifter, and fasteners—reflect Dr. Bill’s signature level of craftsmanship. The speedometer has been restored and shows just 3 total miles since completion.
This bike is a rolling work of art.
MECHANICAL RESTORATION – FULL CRANK-UP REBUILD (JUST COMPLETED)
After sitting as a display piece in Roys Private Museum, we performed a complete mechanical recommissioning and engine rebuild to ensure it runs as beautifully as it looks.
Work performed includes:
-
Full engine removal and teardown
-
Crankshaft trued and rebuilt by professional machinist
-
New crank seals, labyrinth seals, and all engine gaskets replaced
-
New clutch basket (inner & outer) and hardware
-
New seals throughout (kickstart, speedo cable, oil pump, etc.)
-
Carburetor cleaned and tuned
-
Electrical system sorted and tested
-
Fuel system cleaned and restored
-
New battery, spark plug, and fluids installed
51 hours of professional shop labor went into the mechanical work alone, totaling over $9,000 in recent service and parts WE just invested.
The result:
The engine is now mechanically dialed to the same level as the cosmetics.
For optimal reliability, the bike is currently set up to run on pre-mix fuel (like a modern two-stroke). The original oil-injection system has been serviced and cleaned but is not being used to increase reliability.
MILEAGE & CONDITION
-
Total miles since restoration: 3 miles
-
~1.9 miles from Dr. Bill after completion
-
~1.1 miles from our testing and verification
It is, in every sense, a fresh, concours restoration with verified mechanical integrity.
