1973 YAMAHA AT3 125 ENDURO
STUNNING FRAME-OFF RESTORATION
ONLY 1,003 MILES – ELECTRIC START – BRIGADE BLUE
COLLECTOR QUALITY!
A SPECTACULAR 53-YEAR-OLD YAMAHA CLASSIC! FULL NUT-AND-BOLT RESTORATION! EXTREMELY LOW MILES! RARE SURVIVOR!
Feast your eyes on this absolutely stunning 1973 Yamaha AT3 125 Enduro, a beautifully restored example of one of Yamaha's most iconic early 1970s street-legal two-strokes!
Finished in its gorgeous factory-correct Brigade Blue, this 53-year-old classic has undergone an extensive, no-expense-spared, frame-off restoration. The result is an exceptionally beautiful, mechanically sorted, collector-quality Yamaha that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor in 1973!
Showing approximately 1,003 miles, this motorcycle spent many years in a private collection before receiving a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration.
Finding an AT3 this clean is extraordinarily difficult. Finding one with such low mileage, its original street equipment intact, and this level of restoration is something truly special.
This is not your average vintage Yamaha Enduro. This is an outstanding investment-grade-quality restoration intended for the serious Yamaha enthusiast, vintage motorcycle collector, or someone who wants to relive the golden age of motorcycling.
THE LAST OF THE AT SERIES – A TRUE YAMAHA CLASSIC
The 1973 Yamaha AT3 represents the final chapter of Yamaha's legendary AT-series 125cc Enduros before the subsequent DT125 designation.
These motorcycles helped define an entire generation of riding.
For a young man growing up in the early 1970s, owning one of these was the ultimate ticket to freedom!
You could ride it to school during the week, strap your gym bag or lunch onto the factory luggage rack, and head out for adventure after class.
On the weekends, you could put your sweetheart on the back, ride down to the beach, meet your friends at the local sand pits, or explore the trails.
Unlike a dedicated dirt bike, the Yamaha AT3 came equipped with everything needed for street use:
-
Factory headlight and taillight
-
Front and rear turn signals
-
Speedometer and tachometer
-
Electric starting system
-
Passenger footpegs
-
Rear luggage rack
-
Street and trail capability
-
Yamaha's legendary oil-injected two-stroke engine
These little Yamahas were practically bulletproof, and that's exactly why so few beautiful originals survived.
Most were ridden hard, crashed in the woods, stripped of their lights and turn signals, and eventually worn out.
Not this one!
This remarkable example survived with its beautiful original components intact, spent many years in a private collection, and shows approximately 1,003 miles.
Its exceptional preservation made it the perfect candidate for a comprehensive restoration.
And that's precisely what it received.
COMPLETE FRAME-OFF, NUT-AND-BOLT RESTORATION
This motorcycle was completely dismantled, right down to the bare frame.
The engine was removed, the chassis disassembled, and each component individually evaluated, refinished, polished, painted, plated, or replaced as necessary.
The frame was professionally sandblasted and powder coated in its original black finish.
The fuel tank received a beautiful repaint, a spectacular deep blue with an almost purplish tint that perfectly captures the styling of the early 1970s.
The original-style tank graphics were applied, and the paintwork and overall fit and finish are absolutely outstanding.
The oil injection tank was refinished, and the rear fender was repainted in its original metallic silver.
The attention to detail throughout this restoration is extraordinary.

BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED FRONT END & CONTROLS

These are the areas where most vintage Enduros show decades of abuse, corrosion, and wear.
On this machine, they look absolutely spectacular.

It is extremely difficult to find these components in this condition after more than five decades.
FULLY SERVICED 125CC TWO-STROKE ENGINE
The engine received the same meticulous attention as the chassis.
Yamaha's air-cooled, oil-injected 125cc two-stroke was one of the great little engines of its era, combining simplicity, dependability, and the unmistakable sound and character that made these motorcycles so popular.
The engine produces approximately 130 PSI of compression, an excellent reading reported during our inspection.

The bike has been thoroughly gone through and rides beautifully.
The engine starts, runs, and sounds fantastic.
And one of the coolest features of this vintage Yamaha is its factory electric starter!
That's right — this 1973 two-stroke Enduro came equipped with electric start.
With a brand-new battery installed, the electric starter works exactly as intended.
It is a wonderful convenience feature that makes this classic Yamaha even more enjoyable to own and ride.
EXCEPTIONALLY LOW MILEAGE – APPROXIMATELY 1,003 MILES
This beautiful Yamaha spent many years in a private collection and shows just over 1,000 miles.
The odometer had just rolled past the 1,000-mile mark during our test riding.
Look closely at the brake components, footpegs, exhaust system, handlebars, original turn signals, and surviving factory hardware.
These are the components that typically suffer first when a motorcycle is subjected to years of hard off-road riding.
The original street equipment remains beautifully intact.
This AT3 presents as an exceptionally well-preserved, lightly used survivor that benefited from a meticulous restoration rather than a worn-out machine rebuilt from a collection of damaged parts.
Approximately 1,003 miles indicated at the time of filming and inspection.
BRAND-NEW PERIOD-CORRECT ENDURO TIRES
The motorcycle rides on a brand-new set of classic-style Enduro tires, with tread patterns closely matching the original tires fitted to these bikes.
Both wheels also received new inner tubes and rim strips.
The original chrome rims are in gorgeous condition, and the restored hubs and polished aluminum brake backing plates complete the beautiful period-correct appearance.
The tires give this Yamaha the classic dual-purpose look that made the early Enduro series so recognizable.
PERIOD-CORRECT PRESTON PETTY FRONT FENDER
One tasteful modification separates this motorcycle from a completely factory-stock restoration.
It features a Preston Petty Mudder front fender, a classic, period-correct aftermarket accessory.
Preston Petty fenders became extremely popular during the golden age of off-road motorcycling because they were lightweight, flexible, and far more resistant to crash damage than conventional metal fenders.
We love the look of this upgrade on the AT3.
It gives the motorcycle an authentic 1970s Enduro appearance while improving practicality.
For the purist who wants an entirely factory-stock presentation, reproduction or replacement original-style fenders can be sourced and refinished to match.
Other than this period-correct front fender upgrade and the documented restoration and service replacements, the motorcycle retains its original-style appearance and equipment.
WHAT DOES A RESTORATION OF THIS QUALITY COST?
Restoring a motorcycle to this standard requires an extraordinary amount of time, craftsmanship, and financial investment.
A frame-off restoration of this caliber involves approximately 80 hours of professional labor.
At our shop rate of $150 per hour, that represents:
$12,000 IN LABOR ALONE!
And that is before accounting for:
-
Paintwork and body refinishing
-
Powder coating
-
Vapor honing
-
Chrome and aluminum polishing
-
Mechanical components
-
Replacement parts
-
Tires, tubes, and rim strips
-
Electrical components
-
Consumables and restoration supplies
When you consider the labor, materials, parts, and craftsmanship involved, the investment required to recreate a motorcycle to this level is substantial.
This Yamaha has already received that investment.
For the next owner, the difficult, time-consuming, and expensive restoration work has been completed.
You get to enjoy the finished product.
A SHOWPIECE YOU CAN ACTUALLY RIDE!
Imagine taking this beautiful AT3 to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio.
It would look right at home surrounded by some of the finest vintage motorcycles in the country.
You could display it proudly, ride it around the grounds where permitted, enjoy its classic two-stroke character, and take it out for a leisurely ride afterward.
It would also make a wonderful addition to a serious Yamaha collection, a vintage motorcycle display, or a private motorcycle museum.
But this machine is far more than something to admire.
It represents the freedom, adventure, and excitement of the early 1970s.
For someone who owned one of these as a teenager, this motorcycle is a time machine.
For a younger enthusiast, it is an opportunity to experience one of the motorcycles that helped establish Yamaha's legendary Enduro reputation.
And for a collector, it is an exceptional example of a disappearing breed.
This is the kind of motorcycle you buy, preserve, enjoy, and eventually pass down to the next generation.
A true family heirloom.
