Feast your eyes on this remarkable 1972 Suzuki RV90 VanVan!
Finding a vintage off-road motorcycle that has survived more than half a century is one thing. Finding one in this extraordinary condition, still wearing its original factory paint, original components, and showing only 1,624 miles, is something entirely different!
This is an exceptionally well-preserved, low-mileage original survivor that has clearly enjoyed a sheltered and carefully maintained life.
Unlike so many vintage trail bikes that have been ridden hard, modified, neglected, or completely restored, this RV90 retains an astonishing amount of its factory-original character.
THIS IS NOT A FRAME-OFF RESTORATION. THIS IS A GENUINE ORIGINAL-PAINT SURVIVOR!
Our team at Kaplan Cycles has performed extensive mechanical servicing and cosmetic detailing to bring this beautiful little Suzuki to its current presentation while preserving its originality wherever possible.
The result is one of those increasingly difficult-to-find vintage Japanese motorcycles that looks fantastic, runs excellent, and represents a wonderful piece of early 1970s motorcycling history.
INCREDIBLE ORIGINALITY – A TRUE SURVIVOR!
What makes this RV90 particularly special is the number of original components that remain intact after more than five decades.
Highlights include:
-
Only 1,624 miles showing on the odometer
-
Original factory paint on the fuel tank and primary painted bodywork
-
Original factory side covers
-
Original frame and chassis
-
Original handlebars (Bars painted Silver Because the Chrome Peeled) and control levers
-
Original headlight and taillight assemblies
-
Original horn
-
Original footpegs and gear shifter
-
Original factory decals, including the rear decal
-
Original manufacturer's identification/build tag still intact
-
Original factory-style long saddle
-
Original passenger footpegs
-
Original wheels, professionally refinished in black
-
Original-style CCI two-stroke oil injection system
-
Original onboard tire inflation pump
-
Original Bridgestone tires believed to be factory installed
THE ORIGINAL BUILD TAG IS STILL PRESENT AND REMARKABLY WELL PRESERVED!
This is one of those small but significant details that tells a story about the motorcycle's life. On most off-road bikes of this vintage, these tags are worn, faded, damaged, or missing entirely.
The condition of this example is consistent with a motorcycle that has seen exceptionally light use.
Even the original decals have survived beautifully!
MECHANICALLY SERVICED – 130 PSI COMPRESSION – NEW CLUTCH!
This motorcycle isn't simply a vintage display piece. Our technicians at Kaplan Cycles have carefully inspected and serviced the machine to ensure it is mechanically sound and operating properly.
The previous owner removed the cylinder and installed a new piston. During that work, a small portion of one cylinder cooling fin was accidentally cracked when the cylinder was pried upward.
This minor cosmetic imperfection does not affect the engine's operation. We want to disclose it for complete transparency.
Our technicians performed a compression test, and the engine produced an excellent 130 PSI compression reading!
Recent mechanical servicing includes:
-
New piston installed by the previous owner
-
Compression tested at 130 PSI
-
Brand-new clutch installed by Kaplan Cycles
-
Fresh transmission/gear oil
-
New spark plug
-
Engine inspected and tuned
-
Operational inspection of the clutch and transmission
-
Fuel and ignition systems checked during servicing
-
Headlight tested and operational
-
Taillight tested and operational
-
Horn tested and operational
-
General mechanical inspection and service
The RV90 features Suzuki's proven air-cooled, two-stroke engine with its convenient CCI automatic oil injection system, eliminating the need to premix gasoline and two-stroke oil during normal operation when the injection system is functioning properly.
Unlike some small fat-tire motorcycles equipped with automatic transmissions, this Suzuki features a manual transmission with a hand-operated clutch, giving the rider a traditional motorcycle riding experience.
It is lightweight, manageable, easy to operate, and an absolute blast to ride!
EXTENSIVE PROFESSIONAL COSMETIC DETAILING!
Although this motorcycle retains its original factory paint and the overwhelming majority of its original components, we have performed a significant amount of cosmetic preservation and refinishing to enhance its appearance.
Cosmetic work includes:
-
Engine side covers refinished
-
Exposed aluminum surfaces polished
-
Exhaust system refinished in black
-
Original wheel rims repainted black
-
Swingarm repainted
-
Ignition cover refinished
-
Countershaft sprocket cover refinished
-
New gold drive chain installed
-
Sprocket cleaned and refinished
-
Extensive hand detailing of the engine and chassis
-
General cleaning and polishing throughout
The beautifully preserved factory-painted bodywork contrasts nicely with the refinished black wheels, exhaust, and drivetrain components.
The result is an incredibly attractive vintage Suzuki that retains the unmistakable look and character of an original 1972 machine.
Approximately 99% original in configuration and major components, with select service items and cosmetic refinishing as described.
POSSIBLY THE ORIGINAL 1971-DATED BRIDGESTONE TIRES!
Here's another remarkable detail.
At first glance, the big, balloon-style Bridgestone tires appear almost new because of their exceptional tread condition.
Upon closer inspection, we discovered a marking indicating 71 production, which we believe may correspond to an early 1971 manufacturing date.
Considering the motorcycle's 1972 model year, its extremely low indicated mileage, and the appearance of the tire tread, we strongly suspect these may be the original factory-installed Bridgestone tires.
We cannot independently guarantee that they are factory original, but the evidence is compelling.
The tires retain excellent tread depth with wear consistent with approximately 1,600 miles of relatively gentle riding.
There is some age-related checking visible on the sidewalls, as expected from tires of this age.
These tires are wonderful from a preservation and collector's standpoint.
The enormous balloon tires are one of the most distinctive features of the RV90, giving it outstanding flotation and the ability to explore a wide variety of terrain.
THE ORIGINAL FOUR-SEASON FUN MACHINE!
The Suzuki RV90 was designed for one purpose: FUN!
Its oversized balloon tires, compact dimensions, and friendly power delivery made it one of the most versatile recreational motorcycles of its generation.
Whether you're exploring a campground, riding along a sandy trail, enjoying a dirt road, or cruising around your property, the RV90 delivers an experience that modern motorcycles simply cannot duplicate.
Its fat-tire design offers excellent flotation on loose terrain, making it particularly entertaining on:
-
Sandy trails and beaches where riding is permitted
-
Snow-covered private property
-
Dirt roads and trails
-
Campgrounds and recreational properties
-
Grass fields and farm roads
-
Neighborhood roads where legally registered and equipped
ONE MOTORCYCLE. FOUR SEASONS. ENDLESS FUN!
An especially cool original feature is the onboard tire inflation pump.
Back in the 1970s, riders could reduce their tire pressure to improve flotation in soft sand or other loose surfaces, then use the pump to reinflate the tires for firmer terrain.
It was a clever, practical feature that perfectly suited the RV90's adventurous personality.
LONG SADDLE – PASSENGER PEGS – CLASSIC 1970s DESIGN!
One of the coolest characteristics of this little Suzuki is its unusually long factory seat.
Combined with the factory passenger pegs, it reflects the RV90's recreational design and versatility.
These motorcycles evoke memories of camping trips, summer vacations, family properties, and the carefree motorcycling culture of the early 1970s.
Many riders will remember seeing machines like this at campgrounds, on farms, and at vacation homes.
For a generation of motorcycle enthusiasts, the RV series was an introduction to the freedom of riding on two wheels.
This RV90 has that classic 1970s appearance that immediately brings back those memories.
It is an approachable, unintimidating machine that is just as enjoyable to look at as it is to ride.
Passenger use should always remain within the motorcycle's rated capacity and applicable safety requirements.
A WONDERFUL ADDITION TO ANY VINTAGE JAPANESE MOTORCYCLE COLLECTION!
The Suzuki RV90 represents a unique chapter in Japanese motorcycle history.
The RV series, commonly associated with the VanVan name, helped establish the fat-tire recreational motorcycle category with machines designed to be simple, versatile, and fun.
Today, these early Suzuki fat-tire motorcycles have an enthusiastic following among collectors and vintage motorcycle enthusiasts.
Surviving examples can certainly be found, but motorcycles retaining this level of factory-original equipment, paint, decals, and cosmetic preservation are much less common.
The majority were purchased to be ridden off-road, and many endured years of hard recreational use.
That makes this beautifully preserved, low-mileage example particularly appealing.
Whether you're building a collection of early Japanese trail motorcycles, searching for a nostalgic machine from your childhood, or simply appreciate unusual vintage motorcycles, this RV90 deserves serious consideration.
It's an excellent candidate for a vintage Japanese motorcycle collection, a museum display, or a carefully maintained recreational classic.
