Description
1967 Honda CL77 305 Scrambler
Museum-Quality Frame-Off Restoration
Greg Wing Collection – 12,395 Original Miles
Offered here is one of the finest Honda CL77 305 Scramblers you'll find anywhere. This beautifully restored example represents one of Honda's most iconic motorcycles and a true milestone in motorcycle history. Nearly 60 years after it rolled off the assembly line, this CL77 remains an outstanding example of Honda engineering and craftsmanship.
The CL77 helped establish Honda's reputation in America. Equipped with the legendary 305cc parallel twin shared with the Super Hawk, the Scrambler featured longer-travel suspension, higher ground clearance, reinforced handlebars with a cross brace, and the signature high-mounted exhaust system that made it one of the most recognizable motorcycles of the 1960s.
Unlike most CL77s that spent their lives being ridden hard off-road, this example has survived and has since received a comprehensive, no-expense-spared frame-off restoration.
Performance
This Scrambler starts easily, idles beautifully, shifts flawlessly, and runs exactly as a properly restored Honda should. The clutch is smooth, the transmission shifts perfectly, and the engine is exceptionally strong.
Honda rated these motorcycles at approximately 28–30 horsepower, making them among the quickest middleweight motorcycles of their era. With a top speed exceeding 85 MPH, the CL77 earned a reputation for outperforming many larger British motorcycles of the day.
This motorcycle is genuinely exciting to ride. It has excellent throttle response, strong acceleration, and delivers the unmistakable sound only Honda's early 305 twin can produce.

Provenance
This exceptional Honda comes from the Greg Wing Collection in Michigan, where it spent many years as a carefully preserved display motorcycle following its restoration.
Since restoration, the motorcycle has accumulated only approximately 40–50 miles, as evidenced by the remaining molding nibs still visible on the tires.
Collector Investment
The Honda CL77 has become one of the most desirable Japanese motorcycles of the 1960s.
Recent auction results demonstrate the growing collector demand:
-
Multiple examples selling between $10,000–$12,000
-
Mecum Auctions examples exceeding $15,000
-
Bring a Trailer sales reaching over $15,000
The cost to professionally restore a CL77 to this standard today would easily exceed its market value.
With restoration shops commonly charging $150 per hour, a restoration of this caliber represents approximately 80–100 labor hours, plus thousands of dollars in paint, chrome work, polishing, parts, wheel rebuilding, and mechanical restoration.
Simply put, this motorcycle cannot be duplicated today for anywhere near the price it will sell for.
Why Buy This CL77?
Finding a Honda CL77 is easy.
Finding one restored to this standard is extraordinarily difficult.
This motorcycle is equally at home in:
-
A museum collection
-
National concours competition
-
Weekend rides and vintage motorcycle events
It is every bit as impressive as the finest examples that have crossed the Mecum and Bring a Trailer auction blocks.
