Full Provenance Including All Literature & Service Records

Fully Serviced, Tuned & Detailed, Investment Quality

Just Invested $2,150 in Complete Service, Tune & Rotisserie Detailing, Ready for Show and Go.

Feast your eyes on this stunning 1984 BMW R65, a remarkably well-preserved example that is perfectly at home as a centerpiece here in the New England Motorcycle Museum, cruising the winding back roads of New England, or heading out on the interstate for a cross-country trip to California and back.

Whether you want to ride it, show it, add it to a serious private collection, or simply preserve it as an exceptional example of BMW's classic air-cooled era, this R65 is ready to go.

With only 16,000 miles, beautiful original finishes, extensive service history, a clean title in hand, and a comprehensive recent service performed by our technicians, this is what we consider a true no-excuses BMW.

BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL CONDITION

The first thing that stands out is the condition.

The original Azur Blue Factory BMW paint is absolutely gorgeous, with a deep shine that is extremely difficult to find on a 42-year-old motorcycle. The original upholstery, chrome, aluminum, engine finishes, frame paint, controls, gauges and hardware have all been remarkably well preserved.

It runs like a new motorcycle and, from several feet away, could easily be mistaken for one.

The fuel tank is excellent inside and out. The original saddle is in beautiful condition, with none of the deterioration commonly seen on motorcycles of this age. The original footpegs, controls, mirrors, grips and switch housings remain intact, and there is no evidence that the motorcycle has ever been dropped on either side.

Even details that are normally worn after decades of use remain exceptional, including the original BMW R65 badging, triple clamps, fork finishes, gauges, center stand, frame rails and engine cases.

The gauges themselves look virtually new.

The original tank emblems were replaced with new Genuine BMW tank badges that properly complement the exceptional condition of the rest of the motorcycle.

FULL DOCUMENTED PROVENANCE

One of the strongest features of this motorcycle is its history.

It was owned by a very good friend of the New England Motorcycle Museum who recently traded it toward another motorcycle. With the bike came an exceptional collection of documentation tracing its care over the years.

Included are:

  • Original BMW Rider's Manual
  • Original proof-of-ownership documentation
  • Original service-history booklet
  • Pre-delivery inspection records
  • Early BMW dealer service stamps
  • Approximately 600-mile service documentation
  • Approximately 1,000-mile service documentation
  • 5,000-mile service documentation
  • Additional historical service receipts
  • Receipt for the new battery
  • Documentation of the service recently performed by Kaplan Cycles
  • Clean title in hand

The early services were documented by an authorized BMW dealer, giving this motorcycle the type of provenance that collectors increasingly look for.

The history stayed with the bike.

JUST COMPLETELY SERVICED

Before offering the motorcycle for sale, our technicians went through it mechanically & Cosmetically from front to back.

It Was Given a Full Pro Rotisserie Detailing & The service included:

  • Old fuel drained
  • Fresh VP 94-octane ethanol-free fuel added
  • Both carburetors cleaned & serviced
  • New carburetor bowl gaskets installed
  • Float heights carefully set
  • Carburetors synchronized
  • Idle adjusted
  • Fuel-mixture screws properly adjusted
  • New air filter installed
  • Engine oil drained and replaced with premium AMSOIL 20W-50
  • New battery installed
  • Motorcycle inspected throughout
  • Full operational check performed
  • Road tested

The carburetors were carefully set and synchronized, and the motorcycle now starts, idles, accelerates and runs beautifully.

The engine is exceptionally clean and completely dry, with no visible oil leaks from the top or bottom of the motor.

The shaft-drive system operates properly, the brakes work as they should, the electrical system functions correctly, and all lights and gauges are operational.

Mechanically, it is ready to ride.

13 HOURS OF PROFESSIONAL SERVICE & DETAILING

In addition to the mechanical work, our detail department performed a comprehensive cosmetic reconditioning.

The motorcycle received:

  • Full steam cleaning
  • Thorough hand wash
  • Detailed cleaning of the engine and chassis
  • Chrome polishing
  • Aluminum detailing
  • Paint cleaning and polishing
  • Paint waxing
  • Complete final presentation detailing

Approximately six hours were invested in professional detailing and seven hours in mechanical service, for a total of roughly 13 labor hours.

At our current $150-per-hour labor rate, that represents approximately $1,950 in professional labor alone, plus parts and materials.

The result speaks for itself.

LIGHT, NIMBLE & EASY TO LIVE WITH

One of the things that makes the R65 such an enjoyable BMW is its size.

Compared with the larger R80 and R100 models, the R65 feels lighter, more compact and easier to manage. It is particularly enjoyable around town, on winding country roads and in situations where a larger touring motorcycle can feel cumbersome.

It is easier to move around the garage, easier to back up, easier to manage with a passenger aboard and extremely comfortable at normal highway speeds.

At the same time, this is still very much a proper BMW road motorcycle.

It is perfectly comfortable cruising two-up on the highway at 70–80 MPH all day, making it equally suitable for an afternoon back-road ride or a serious long-distance trip.

BMW's classic air-cooled Boxer motorcycles earned their reputation for exceptional durability through decades of real-world use, and with only around 16,000 miles showing, this example has seen remarkably little use for its age.

READY TO SHOW OR RIDE

This is the type of vintage BMW you can take in several different directions.

Put it on display in your private collection.

Show it at an antique or European motorcycle event.

Keep it preserved here in museum-quality condition.

Or do exactly what BMW built it to do—turn the key and ride it.

Take it down a quiet New England country road, commute to work, head out for a Sunday morning ride, or load up and point it toward Sturgis.

It is ready.

COME SEE IT AT THE NEW ENGLAND MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM

The motorcycle is currently on display at the New England Motorcycle Museum in Rockville, Connecticut.

We are open seven days a week, and prospective buyers are welcome to come inspect the motorcycle in person.

If the photographs and riding video give you enough confidence to purchase it remotely, another option is to fly into Bradley International Airport and ride it home.

That could make for one memorable summer road trip.

NO-EXCUSES CLASSIC BMW
