If you’re looking for one of the most important Japanese superbikes ever built—and one of the cleanest surviving examples on the market today—this is it.

The Bike That Changed the Game

In 1978, Suzuki came out swinging with the GS1000—its first true liter-class superbike—and immediately shook the industry. Built to dethrone the likes of Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha, the GS1000 didn’t just compete… it dominated.

  • 997cc air-cooled DOHC inline-four

  • ~90 horsepower @ 8,200 RPM

  • 5-speed transmission

  • Triple disc brakes

  • Lightweight, rigid double cradle steel frame

  • Quarter mile: ~11.8 seconds

  • Top speed: ~135 MPH

Lighter, narrower, and more agile than its competitors, the GS1000 proved that handling and balance beat brute force—a philosophy that shaped every modern superbike that followed.

With backing from racing legend Pops Yoshimura, and piloted by Wes Cooley, the GS1000:

  • Won Daytona right out of the box

  • Secured back-to-back AMA Superbike Championships (1979 & 1980)

  • Dominated global competition including Formula TT World Championships

This is the machine that launched Suzuki’s legendary GS/GSX-R lineage.

Ultra-Rare Original Survivor

Most GS1000s were heavily modified for racing or street builds.

Finding a 100% original example like this is nearly impossible.

This bike is:

  • Original factory paint (black/white with gold pinstripe)

  • Original exhaust, airbox, seat, bars, signals, shocks, gauges

  • Owned by a meticulous collector in upstate New York

  • Just 29,900 original miles

  • Never restored—only professionally preserved

Aside from wear items (chain, tires, grips), this is a true survivor—

a unicorn-level, Investment Quality collector piece.
