Description

1974 Hodaka Super Wombat 125

Roy Thacker / TISCO Racing Collection

Frame-Up Restoration – Showpiece or Racer

Hey guys, feast your eyes on this ultra-cool moto classic. What you’re looking at here is a 1974 Hodaka Super Wombat 125 from the legendary Roy Thacker TISCO Racing Collection—and this one is something truly special.

Roy built his bikes to race, not just to look pretty, and he never cut corners. If you remember the Thunder Dog 250 he built—the fastest Hodaka 250 I’ve ever ridden by a long shot—that bike sold immediately when we listed it. This Super Wombat comes from that same lineage, the same mindset, and the same no-expense-spared approach.

This bike is over 50 years old and presents as an absolute diamond. It’s fully display-ready or race-ready, depending on your intentions.

Restoration & Cosmetics

This Hodaka was taken all the way down to the bare frame and given a full frame-up restoration:

Frame refinished in the Hodaka blue

Show-quality fuel tank —no dings, no dents

(If you plan to race it, you’d honestly want a spare tank, this one is that nice)

Brand-new Hodaka tank badges

Original 20:1 Hodaka fuel mixture gas cap, mint condition

Stunning Super Wombat graphics on the number plates—absolutely beautiful work

New Hodaka-branded front fender with chrome fender brace

New front and side number plates

The bike is a true showpiece—but it was also built to be ridden.

Chassis, Suspension & Controls

Front wheel with new tire and tube

Front hub repainted

Front brake fully redone

Forks restored:

Polished aluminum lowers (not chrome—polished aluminum to a mirror shine)

New seals and rubber covers

Chrome uppers polished

Lower triple clamp painted

Period-correct tall chrome handlebars

New Motion Pro throttle, cable, and tube

New grips

New front brake lever, perch, and cable

New clutch lever, perch, and cable

Seat reupholstered with new foam

(There is a very small blem/tear on the side of the seat—tiny and barely noticeable)

Original Rear wheel with new tire and tube

Rear hub repainted

New rear sprocket and chain

Chain Adjusters and axles in mint condition

Chain guide in excellent shape

Vintage-style Kayaba shocks with aluminum bodies and chrome springs

(Very cool, period look—you don’t see these anymore, still have the rubber bumpers and look excellent)

New Preston Petty rear fender with new mount

The rear tire tells the story—this bike has maybe 45 minutes to an hour of total ride time since restoration.

Engine & Drivetrain

Roy rebuilt his bikes the way racers do—from the bottom up:

  • New piston and rings

  • New top-end gaskets

  • New head gasket

  • New spark plug

  • Carburetor rebuilt

  • New air filter

  • New fuel lines, tees, and fuel filter

  • Dual petcock system, petcocks in like-new condition

This bike runs beautifully, shifts smoothly, and the clutch works exactly as it should. It’s tight, crisp, and dialed in—just like you’d expect from a Roy Thacker build.

Exhaust & Details

  • Original exhaust in good condition

  • Has One dent on the bottom and one on the side

  • (Very common on these—an exhaust repair shop could remove it if desired)

  • Frame rails are straight and clean

  • Shifter in great shape

  • Original drilled brake pedal in good condition

  • Brakes work great
