1977 Honda XR75 – Six-Month Frame-Off Restoration – J&B Racing Pipe – Show Quality

Take a look at this absolutely stunning 1977 Honda XR75. This iconic little Honda has just completed an intensive six-month, frame-off restoration by the Kaplan Cycles team. It was completely dismantled, and virtually every component was restored, refinished, serviced, or replaced.

This was not a quick cosmetic makeover. We began with a clean, straight, original-engine survivor and rebuilt it the way we would want one built for our own collection. The result is an exceptionally detailed XR75 that looks spectacular, sounds incredible, and has been thoroughly tested and dialed in.

The Restoration

The frame and swingarm were stripped and refinished in the correct original Honda factory paint color. Importantly, the frame retains its original and exceptionally well-preserved 1977 identification tag.

The original fuel tank was professionally refinished by Mill Street Auto. Because the tank was remarkably straight, it required no significant bodywork. The professional $750 paint job came out absolutely gorgeous, with brand-new Honda wing graphics completing the original-style appearance. The inside of the tank was also cleaned and restored.

Front End and Controls

The entire front end was restored and serviced:

Front forks completely rebuilt
New fork seals and fork oil
New fork rubber boots
Fork lowers refinished in Honda black

Correct Honda-style mounting hardware and rear rubber strap

Wheels, Tires and Brakes

The original front rim was retained, showing just how clean and complete this XR75 was before the restoration began. The hub was vapor-honed, the spokes were cleaned and adjusted, and the chrome rim was carefully polished.

The rear wheel received the same detailed treatment:

Engine and Intake System

The engine was removed from the frame and thoroughly cleaned and detailed from top to bottom. The cylinder head, valve cover, engine cases and exterior surfaces were carefully cleaned and polished. The clutch cover was restored and repainted, while the engine mounts and lower engine-protection pan were stripped and refinished.

New pilot jet and additional carburetor jetting

New gas-cap gasket

J&B Racing Exhaust

One of the highlights is the brand-new J&B Racing Equipment exhaust pipe. It gives this XR75 the unmistakable sound and attitude that will instantly transport many riders back to their childhood.

This is a period-style performance addition that looks fantastic, sounds spectacular and gives the motorcycle a character all its own.

Chassis and Running Gear

The original rear shocks were dismantled, cleaned, polished, repainted and reinstalled. The foot pegs were sandblasted and refinished, while the kickstand and rear brake lever were also stripped and restored.

Throughout the restoration, hardware was individually cleaned, inspected and either reused or replaced as necessary. Every major component removed from the motorcycle was vapor-honed, steam-cleaned, sanded, polished, painted, serviced or replaced.

Documented Restoration Investment

This restoration required:

58 hours of detailed restoration labor
25 hours of mechanical service labor
83 total shop hours at $150 per hour: $12,450
New parts and restoration materials: $1,450
Professional fuel-tank paintwork: $750
Total documented restoration work order: $14,650

Including the original motorcycle and the cost of transporting it to our facility, approximately $16,600 has been invested in this XR75. It is being offered for a fraction of that total investment.

Built Properly—Not Just Made to Look Pretty

Many vintage motorcycles look impressive in photographs but reveal worn bearings, tired engines, poor brakes, incorrect hardware and numerous mechanical problems once they are ridden.

That is not how we restore motorcycles.

This XR75 was dismantled, restored, serviced and carefully reassembled by an experienced team. We ride and test our motorcycles before, during and after restoration, and every machine is inspected again before delivery.

Kaplan Cycles has restored and sold thousands of classic motorcycles while maintaining 100% positive feedback. Although vintage motorcycles are sold as-is, our relationship with our customers does not end when the motorcycle leaves our facility. All motorcycles & vehicles are sold as-is where-is.

Kaplan Cycles guarantees all motorcycles are as-described. Please read the entire description and watch the entire video before bidding.

A non-refundable deposit is due immediately on purchase. PayPal or Credit Card is accepted for the deposit.

Cash (In-Person), Card (+3% fee), or Wire Transfer are our only accepted forms of final payment.

Full payment must be made within 7 days of auction close.

Your motorcycle must be picked up within 30 days of auction close.

Exceptions are made only for international buyers OR buyers who have ALREADY made transport arrangements with a third party.

If a motorcycle is purchased and left here for longer than 30 days without written permission from Kaplan Cycles it will be resold. In the case of a re-sale, the owner will be entitled to a refund less storage fees ($25/ day beginning 30 days from auction close) ONLY if the motorcycle was paid in full on-time within the auction terms.

We always describe our motorcycles as accurately as possible.

You are purchasing a classic motorcycle. Even in cases where a bike may be in good running/ operating condition, new problems & idiosyncrasies can arise over-time from sitting or regular use.

If you have an issue with the motorcycle you’ve received, contact us within 24 hours of delivery and before leaving feedback so that we can address your concerns.

It is important you have at least a basic mechanical knowledge before purchasing and operating a classic motorcycle.

Due to our backlog, we cannot perform any additional service work or modifications on your motorcycle after the sale (ie; adding a light kit, different tires, etc.)

In some cases we will sell motorcycles without title or registration. In these cases we guarantee all motorcycles sold are free and clear. We will always provide a route to obtaining title. Generally in these cases, the motorcycle will be sold at a discount to accommodate expenses involved.

Documents are mailed via USPS priority mail with a tracking number. Please allow up to 14 days after payment in full for your documents to be processed and mailed.

Keys will be shipped with the motorcycle.
