1982 Suzuki GS300L – Last Brand New Example on Planet Earth – 6 Original Miles – Museum Quality Time Capsule
Once in a Lifetime Opportunity – If you’ve been waiting for the holy grail of lightweight vintage cruisers, this is it. This is not a restoration. This is not a “low-mile survivor.” This is the last known brand new Suzuki GS300L in existence, born in February of 1982 and preserved in a true time capsule for 43 years.
The story is as special as the bike itself. We acquired this GS300L from the original owner, a lifelong collector who purchased over 40 brand-new motorcycles in the early ’80s and kept them in pristine indoor storage. When health issues forced him to sell, we purchased 19 of them — this GS300L included. When it arrived, the odometer read 3 miles. Today, after a careful test ride, it reads 6 original miles.
Museum-Quality Condition with Honest, Minimal Patina
Electrically, mechanically, and cosmetically, this is as close to a 100-point bike as you’ll find from the era — realistically, a 97–99 point original by concours judging standards. I’ve judged multiple motorcycle shows, and for originality, this ranks among the finest.
Even though it’s brand new, it’s 43 years old, and like any vintage motorcycle, there’s a touch of patina:
-
Forks – Perfect clear coat, no flaking — almost unheard of even on 20-year-old bikes from storage, let alone 40+ years.
-
Chrome – Excellent overall, with just a couple small spots on the exhaust pipe, front fender and maybe a touch on the rear fender. This is typical of the thinner chrome plating of the era.
-
Frame & Engine – Fuel tank Paint finish is new and beautiful, chrome on the engine is excellent, clear coat on the engine cases is in remarkable shape.
-
Tires – Original Bridgestones still have the factory “hairy nubs” — proof of its untouched condition.
-
Chain – Upgraded to a gold Moose O-ring chain (non-original but complements the gold pinstripe).
-
Battery Tender Lead – Professionally installed for longevity; plug it in over the winter and you’ll get a decade out of a battery.
The only non-original cosmetic items are the fuel tank and side panels, professionally refinished in the correct Candy Antares Red with factory-style gold pinstripes after the original tank was damaged in shipping. The paintwork is flawless and indistinguishable from factory finish.
Service & Detailing –
We went through this GS300L like it was going into our own museum:
-
Tank stripped to bare metal, treated, primed, painted, clear-coated, wet-sanded & buffed
-
Side covers refinished to match tank
-
Fuel system: Metal Rescue tank treatment, new fuel petcock, new fuel lines
-
Engine service: New NGK spark plugs, fresh Spectro 10W-40 oil & OEM filter, carburetors removed/cleaned/tuned, new UNI air filter
-
Electrical: New battery installed with battery tender lead
-
Drive system: New Moose 520 O-ring gold chain installed (original included if desired)
-
Detailing: hours of hand-cleaning, steam cleaning, and polishing every nut, bolt, and painted surface
Total labor time: 56 hours shop labor + $600 in parts.
We didn’t do this to flip a profit — we did it to preserve history.

The GS300L was Suzuki’s answer to the lightweight cruiser market — smooth, comfortable, and reliable enough to survive decades of use. Many were daily commuters or starter bikes for new riders, which makes this untouched example truly extraordinary.
Collector Value
Original, unmolested Japanese motorcycles from the early ’80s are skyrocketing in value — especially in brand new condition. Try finding another GS300L with single-digit miles. In over 40 years of collecting and restoring, I’ve never seen one. When this is gone, it’s gone.
In the Saddle
The GS300L is a pleasure to ride — light clutch pull, smooth shifting, rev-happy engine, and plush suspension. Whether you add it to your collection as a display piece or put a few careful miles on it each summer, it will turn heads and start conversations anywhere it goes.
Final Word
I worked at a Suzuki dealership in the early ’80s and personally uncrated bikes just like this when I was 17. To have one in my hands again — brand new — after all these years is surreal. But as much as I’d love to keep it, I’m letting it go so another collector can preserve this rare piece of history.
If you’ve been waiting for the right classic bike to invest in, this is it. No restoration headaches, no “hidden issues” — just pure, untouched Suzuki perfection from the factory floor of 1982.
God bless Suzuki, God bless America, and God bless this beautiful machine.
